Objectives
The Fund will exploit the void that exists between providers of seed capital and traditional venture capital in the healthcare and life sciences sector. Management will seek investment opportunities within the UK and selected western EU countries in medical devices, diagnostics and technology which enables faster or more accurate discovery of human therapeutics.
Medical devices will include orthopaedics, regenerative medicine, neurostimulation and cardiovascular devices and the emerging field of biomaterials.
Diagnostics will include medical testing and medical imaging techniques and processes.
Investments in enabling or transformational technologies will be in areas of unmet clinical need, post proof of principle, but without the requirement for long and expensive clinical trials.
The Fund will not normally invest in biotech or pharmaceutical companies per se because of the long time lines for human clinical studies and regulatory approval.
Individual investments will be made in the £2-3m range, with possibility for syndication on larger investments. Each investment will be actively managed with an expected exit horizon of 3-5 years.
Key criteria in making an investment is that exit horizon is feasible.
Exit will typically be effected through either a market listing or a trade sale.
